2013 has been a very good year. As if adventures in Scotland, Denmark and Paris earlier in the year weren’t enough, I spent last week in the great state of Louisiana with a family that has become very special to me over the past couple of years. Lori from Little White Apron, her husband John, and their two daughters welcomed me into their Baton Rouge home with open arms and an incredible warmth that has left me with a glowing heart and an even deeper sense of connection that helps to bridge the 4,518 miles separating us now that I’m back home.Believe it or not, Lori and I originally met on Facebook, brought together by a mutual love of food and books. She was one of the original fans of my “other” blog, Outlander Kitchen, and is a constant source of inspiration and support. To put it simply, she’s my new best friend, and John is pretty special too. Our time together included an overnight trip to New Orleans, an epic house party with their friends and neighbours, and a day trip to Beaux Bridge, the gateway to Cajun culture.
